The Locale

The Locale is a small, trendy bar located at Glasgow’s Charing Cross, very close to Sauchiehall Street. The bar benefits from a large selection of premium cocktails and beers, while also serving good pub food and hosting one of the better beer gardens in the whole city.

Similarly to the demographic of previous bars like ‘Shilling’, expect to find a mix of students and those in their late 20s/30s (who still like to pretend they’re students). The bar is not primarily focused on being a cheap place to drink, therefore it can focus more on enticing its young, trendy crowd who are happy to pay an extra pound for a nice beer, some good music, and a laidback atmosphere.

With a mixture of local craft beers and popular favourite beers like Staropramen and Estrella, most are catered for in terms of the selection of beers, however as stated, expect to pay slightly more for your experience, you are looking at around £5 for an Estrella or Staropramen, which for a more premium beer brand is nothing outrageous, after all, its not ‘The Counting House.’ The bar also showcases a range of local DJs, which is always refreshing.

The beer garden, in my experience is about the best the city has to offer. On a (rare) sunny Glasgow day expect to find the place packed. The large area, with heaters provided at most tables, is somewhere you can enjoy not only a few pints in the evening but even a nice lunch through the day if this is what you are after.

Every Monday, the bar hosts a quiz night which I found to be a lively and enjoyable event, despite a friend of mine to this day believing that the Locale’s quizmaster has some sort of pre-meditated agenda against him. He is so bitter about this that he has decided to do a full year of study in Hong Kong to avoid the Locale’s Monday Quiz.

This bar is a favourite of mine in the City and with some good clubs in the surrounding area such as Berkely Suite, Broadcast and NicenSleazys where many will look to prolong their night out when the Locale closes its doors at midnight. Definitely somewhere I would highly recommend, hope you enjoy the quiz night more than Fergi x
