Kitty O'Sheas West End
Based on Great Western Road in the heart of the west end of Glasgow, Kitty O’Sheas is about as popular a bar as you will find in the west of Glasgow. It is likely one of the only places outside of the city centre that you will find yourself waiting in a queue to enter. The Irish bar has all the redeeming attributes that make Irish bars and pubs so popular on an international scale. Loud live music, traditional wooden gothic décor and draft Guinness complete the stereotypical list of Irish pub traits.
As mentioned, this is a very busy bar, on a Friday and Saturday you should expect to wait 5-10 minutes to be served every time you are going to the bar, and you should also look to arrive before 11pm on these nights to ensure you can actually get in before it is too busy.
Kitty’s fortunately positions itself in somewhat of a market
gap in the west end of Glasgow, (which as previously mentioned, is rife with
students) The bar stays open until 2am every night and provides an atmosphere
somewhere between that of a pub and a nightclub. This is something that works
greatly in their favour as students- especially those now in their early 20s-
are not necessarily up for dressing up and going to nightclubs every night of
the week. Kitty’s provides a middle ground for this demographic and positions
itself in a way which makes it unique to all other bars in the west end of
Glasgow. Where other popular bars in the area shut at 12am, Kitty’s is open until
2, allowing students to prolong their night out
In comparison to Bank Street on the previous post, you would
expect to have more of a ‘night out’ in Kitty’s whereas Bank Street as
mentioned is more of a relaxed venue for earlier in the evening. It is likely
that students could actually visit both bars on the same night as they are just
minutes from each other. Kitty’s is probably one of the most vibrant pub
atmospheres students can experience in Glasgow and therefore, highly
recommendable even if your pound may not stretch as far here compared to some
competitors.
